Best-selling author Glenn Wagner says the path to spiritual greatness begins and ends with radical dependence on God.  Glenn will bring the message at Sojourn this Sunday, April 18th, as we continue our new series in James.  Below is a an article about his recent book.
  
   In an age of unprecedented material and spiritual resources, best-selling author Glenn Wagner asks why there isn’t a greater movement of God in America.
   Churches and ministries’ financial strength, high-tech wizardry and wealth of talent should be propelling us to greater heights of spiritual transformation and evangelism. Yet despite these tools, we are left in a state of comfort and malaise, Wagner argues in “Fire In Your Bones!”, his eighth book.  .
   Wagner, president of FutureLead, says the problem isn’t tools or talent, but our reliance upon them instead of God. He contends that the path to corporate and personal transformation is to live “down under.” Not to be confused with moving to Australia, this term refers to quieting ourselves to live under the leadership of God and looking to him alone for power and effectiveness in ministry.
   “Never seek to live and do God’s work merely from the intellect, skill or flesh,” he writes. “We get down under God when we stop depending on ourselves for effectiveness in living, working, speaking, witnessing and praying and start placing our total reliance on God.”
   Written for both lay people and pastors, “Fire In Your Bones!” was inspired by Jeremiah’s words:  “But if I say, ‘I will not mention him or speak any more in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.”
   Wagner says Christians with Jeremiah’s fervor are few in the American church: “While there are still those who live and speak for Christ, for most, there is no burning within the heart. God desires a new generation of Jeremiahs – men and women who can’t keep quiet wherever they go.”
   Only believers living “down under” can consistently experience a lifestyle of supernatural power. Radical dependence on God results in transformed character and boldness in living and personal evangelism. It also leads to the most fulfilling life possible.
   Wagner offers no formula for Spirit-dependent living, but provides sound principles and benchmarks that every Christ-follower can use to become more reliant upon God. The book also offers a series of questions to help readers diagnose their true spiritual health.
    “I don’t want to be described as a ‘sub-normal’ Christ follower,” Wagner writes. “I don’t want to misrepresent the One I say I’m following! Rather, I fervently desire to live with the Word and the Spirit of God on fire within my very soul – so that everywhere I walk and talk, people see Jesus.”
